Notice 002 — New Recruits!!
H.E.R.O. is pleased to introduce four new operational personnel. This is good news. Please read this notice. This is genuinely good news.
Issued by: T. Wexley, Volunteer Assistant Intern (Unpaid), H.E.R.O. Public Records Department Day 2 since the Event (I am calling it the Event for now — T.W.)
I have good news.
I want to lead with that because I have been putting out a lot of information lately that could be characterised as alarming challenging, and I think it's important that people know I am also capable of sending good news. This is the good news notice. Please read the whole thing.
H.E.R.O. has new operational personnel.
Specifically: four applicants who were on-site at the Citadel at the time of the Event have agreed to take on active field duties. They completed the full intake process. Their paperwork is in order. They are out there right now, and I think they are going to be brilliant, and I am choosing to feel good about this even though I am running on very little sleep and the coordination room is still filing things at me faster than I can file back.
I would like to formally introduce them.
Gurgles the Brewster
Gnome. Brewer. Druid. Approximately three and a half feet tall, which I mention not as a limitation but because it is genuinely striking how much command presence fits into that height. Gurgles sold me a drink within approximately one minute of our meeting — I did not ask for a drink, the context did not obviously call for a drink, but I bought it anyway and I want you to understand that this was not weakness on my part, it was the natural outcome of a very compelling pitch.
He has an extraordinary way with animals. Extraordinary might be underselling it The sheep liked him immediately. All of them. I am not certain how to explain this; it may simply be that he is trustworthy in a way that animals can detect faster than people can.
He is also extremely calm in a crisis. This is the one I find most useful.
Kaytag
Human fighter. Very tall — I have provisionally recorded this as approximately six foot three but he may be slightly taller; I was not in the optimal position to measure when we first met, as he had me at arm's length by the lapels and my attention was elsewhere. This was for safety reasons, which I have fully accepted and which I am not still thinking about.
His first recorded words in this building were "The toilet." I have not been able to establish with certainty whether this was a priority assessment or something else. I have decided it was a priority assessment, because that is the most useful interpretation for the records.
He is the steadiest person I have met since the Event. That is not a small thing to say right now.
Yesbellis Spell
Human bard. Previously the frontman of "Yesbellis and the Spells," a musical venture he considers ongoing. Distinguished by: an iridescent cape, pastel eyeshadow, a hand mirror he carries as standard equipment, and a lute that has — on one confirmed occasion, which I have filed under both "field incident" and "extraordinary circumstances" — saved his life.
He has formally claimed to be the Chief Executive Officer of the Heroic Emergency Response Organisation. I am required to note, for the public record, that H.E.R.O. does not have a Chief Executive Officer. H.E.R.O. is a structured professional organisation led by operational command through its group hierarchy. I have explained this to Yesbellis. He found it interesting information.
He rhymes his spell incantations. I initially thought this was an affectation. It is not an affectation.
Jorgina Tayloris
Half-elf. Striking emerald eyes. Has not technically said anything directly to me yet, but I want to be clear that I do not find this worrying in the least. Some people communicate through presence and observation rather than words, and I have decided that is exactly what is happening here, and that we will be great friends once the current situation stabilises and there is more time for that kind of thing.
She is watching everything. In a good way. Almost certainly in a good way.
These four individuals are already in the field. They are already helping. I have every confidence in them, which I am aware is a thing I have to say, but I also mean it sincerely, which I want you to know is different.
The public is asked to extend them the courtesy owed to any H.E.R.O. personnel. They are doing the work. They are doing it now. Please be kind.
Filing continues.
