Magic & Anomalies Since the Flash

Post-Flash reality distortions, their cause unknown, and how to avoid becoming a flute.

Magic & Anomalies Since the Flash

On the day the sky turned green, magic went wrong.

Not catastrophically. Not everywhere at once. But in places—scattered across the continent—magic started leaking. Raw, unformatted, behaving as though the rules were optional. A field turns to crystal. A lake ferments into wine. A town wakes up able to speak only in song. The cause remains unknown.

What's Happening

The glitches are localised. Over the last two days, they have been reported clustering around certain sites—often the places where H.E.R.O. teams were stationed or conducting operations. The magic leaks from these points outward, warping the landscape and the normal laws that govern it.

Commoners have been surprisingly measured about this. A village that loses the ability to speak plain words does not panic; they adapt, learn the rhythms, teach the children. The supernatural has become a nuisance, not a portent. "The magic's gone strange again" is said the way one might comment on the rain.

If You Encounter an Anomaly

Do not touch the residue. The leaking magic is not safe. There have been reports—unverified, but consistent—of exposure causing harm. A documented case involved extremities being transformed. One individual apparently lost fingers. Another may have lost worse.

The glass rod method used by authorised recovery teams is the standard: do not handle directly; observe from distance; document what you can; report via the nearest status-rune or Sending Stone.

If you are stranded in an active anomaly zone:

  • Stay calm. The glitches tend toward pattern, not randomness.
  • Observe what has changed. Gravity, communication, the behaviour of animals, the viscosity of liquids.
  • Do not attempt to fix what you don't understand.
  • Report to H.E.R.O. or the nearest town authority as soon as you are able to leave.

[Records note — T.W.: That bit about fingers becoming flutes is genuinely documented. I've seen the report. I sleep better not thinking about it.]
